Understanding Sensor Limitations
Contact sensors are highly reliable, but they have specific limitations that are worth understanding:
They detect opening, not breaking. A contact sensor detects when a door or window opens through its normal path. If an intruder breaks a window and enters through the broken pane without opening the sash, the contact sensor will not trigger. Adhesive can fail over time. In environments with extreme temperatures (unheated garages in winter, south-facing windows in summer), adhesive can weaken and sensors can detach.
